Some love stories are quiet and steady. Others arrive drenched in sweat, laughter, and a perfectly timed question. Shawn and Lisa’s story is the second kind, and it is one I will forever hold close to my heart.

This story is especially meaningful to me because Shannon, Lisa’s mom, is one of my best friends. Having the honor of capturing her daughter’s love story and Shawn’s journey into their family was deeply personal. There are moments as a photographer when the lens fades away and you simply feel the weight and beauty of what is unfolding. This was one of those moments.

Their story begins on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at a Singles Hot Yoga event hosted through the SweatPals app at Karma Yoga. Shawn and Lisa both signed up for the HIIT hot yoga class because regular hot yoga was not enough of a workout for either of them. Fate had other plans.

The moment Shawn saw Lisa walk into the studio, he knew he needed to talk to her. Lisa rolled out her mat completely unaware that her life was about to change. About an hour later, everyone was exhausted, sweaty, and ready to leave. As Lisa gathered her things, Shawn finally found his moment.

“Do you play pickleball?”

Sometimes love does not begin with grand speeches. Sometimes it begins with a simple question asked at exactly the right time.

Lisa was excited for a new friend, and that Sunday they met up at the Pan Am Pickleball courts. Over the next few weeks, friendship grew naturally into something more. On January 18, 2024, they went on their first official date, and everything else fell beautifully into place.

Fast forward to the night I captured them as Mr. and Mrs. Chambers, and it was pure joy from beginning to end. Laughter filled the room. Love radiated effortlessly from them. Every moment felt special and meaningful because they made it that way.

Family was woven into every part of the celebration. Shawn was surrounded by the people who have loved him longest, including his brother, his sister, his mother, and childhood friends, each one present and overflowing with pride and joy as they watched him step into this new chapter. Lisa was equally wrapped in love, with all four of her sisters by her side, and Josie standing as her maid of honor, a beautiful reflection of the bond they share.

Watching Vince and Shannon witness their daughter’s happiness, seeing both families fully present and celebrating together, and documenting the way these two families came together so naturally was incredibly moving. This was not just a wedding day. It was a joining of stories, relationships, and hearts.

This is why I do what I do. Not just to capture how moments look, but how they feel.
